Both door and furniture latches had a bug that prevented them from working correctly. The door latches are now fixed but furniture latches have been removed temporarily for further bugfixing.

If you used a latch on a door, you can buy a new latch and install it, or ask a liaison to fix it for you.

If you used a latch on a piece of furniture, you can buy a new furniture lock and install it, or ask a liaison to fix it for you.

Locksmiths the Disc over have started stocking new items for those who don't feel the need to lock up their property and possessions.

You may now buy latches without locks for your player house doors and furniture.

To install them, use the syntax:

change [lock in] <door or furniture> for <latch>

A Case Of Scope Creep, posted on Wed Oct 22 08:40:34 2025

The case and scope commands have been reworked with a view to making them a bit more useful overall.

The case command will now let you specify a particular item you want to target and will allow you to assess your chances of acquiring it by either snatching or stealing (where "stealing" encompasses both the steal and filch commands). Information will only be given for valid commands, so you will not get a result for the "snatch" command when casing a worn item of clothing, for example.

Sheathing And A Peek Ahead, posted on Wed Oct 22 06:15:07 2025

A few small things (that's what this blog is for, right?):

1. I made a small change to the sheathe command a few weeks ago so that if you don't give it a specific scabbard, it will try your worn scabbards before unworn ones.

2. I also updated the sheathe help file, because there was a feature from 2009 about using 'identify' that I suspect few people, if any, knew about. (I wasn't aware of it!)

3. At some point in the near future I'll be removing the restriction that you can only get one handfu...

Another Coat Of Pain, posted on Sat Oct 18 16:15:18 2025
Posted by: Kadath

I've made a few adjustments relating to blade coatings in response to player feedback and my own monitoring and testing.

- All coatings will now last significantly longer than they previously did. The exact duration is determined by the coating's bonus (which has always been the case), but the increase across the board should be quite noticeable.

- The reduction in duration when bloat coating or [redacted] coating trigger their effect has been reduced, meaning the coating will last longer ...

Priests' passage rooms now have (spoiler-free) helpfiles.

A few of the messages in the sailing mission have been changed to make it clear that adjustments to the XP reward are affected by the speed at which you do the mission rather than by how you treat the engine. The only change is in the messages - everything else is as it was before.

Maisey Goes To Therapy, posted on Mon Sep 29 08:44:34 2025

It has been discovered that Maisey Bent has a rather more squeamish nature than she let on and was viewing any act of murder near her as a personal attack against her.

She has now undergone therapy and has been made to accept that this world can be rather harsh at times and she just needs to Deal With It. She has made good progress and has promised the guild to differentiate between attacks on her and attacks on those around her.

She has also agreed to drop any old grievances as she was unable t...

A Couple Of QoL Tweaks To Coatings, posted on Tue Sep 23 14:39:42 2025
Posted by: Kadath
Category: Guilds
I've made a couple of tweaks to coatings to (hopefully) ease a few teething issues that I've noticed. This isn't a balance update so much as just making a few things a bit more user-friendly.

- Applicators with at least one empty slot will have an extra line at the end of the description to indicate the "refill" syntax can be used to refill them with coatings.

- The "help coat" helpfile now includes the "refill" syntax so that players don't need to specifically use the applicator helpfile to...

A Blanket Solution, posted on Thu Sep 18 16:01:34 2025
Posted by: Kadath
Category: Guilds
I've made an adjustment to the way that major shield, minor shield, and security blanket interact, in order to fix a long-standing bug. The issue was that players with a major shield who received the benefits of Security Blanket would find their major shield now counted as a 'lower' layer of protection and that their clothing/armour would take a lot more damage as it was being counted as being 'above' the major shield.

This fix now makes major shield remain as an 'upper' layer of shielding, r...
