| Accelerated Learning Programme, posted on Thu Jun 4 08:38:31 2026 | | Posted by: Presto | | Category: Special | | Pay attention class! There have been a couple recent updates to teaching. First, as you may have noticed, there are syntaxes for teaching/learning all the commands that the teacher can teach the student, all at once. Second, after analyzing data from the log, it turned out that a little over half of all teaching was taking the maximum possible time to complete. This seemed excessive, so the time delay has been rescaled such that the maximum time will occur at a higher XP threshold than it did... Read The Rest Of This Entry |
| Thousands And Thousands, posted on Tue May 19 05:10:11 2026 | | Posted by: Presto | | Category: Special | There is a new option available under "options output numbers separators". This will allow you to control whether large numbers will be displayed with thousands separators in certain contexts. Currently this applies to xp and rating messages in the teach, learn, and score commands and in the combat monitor. If enabled, the numbers will be displayed using the British standard of commas separating the groups.
Note the current "options output numbers" option has been moved to "options output num...Read The Rest Of This Entry |
| My Eyes Are Up Here, posted on Mon May 11 00:22:54 2026 | | Posted by: Presto | | Category: Special | The "describe" command now has a new syntax that allows you to control the order that zone descriptions will appear when someone looks at you. If, for example, you want your eyes description to appear first, then your hair, then your legs, you can use "describe zone order eyes, hair, legs".
In addition, the MUD will try to be a bit smarter about how many spaces it inserts between zone descriptions, so things should look a bit better.

| Chatty Chatty Change Change, posted on Sun Apr 26 07:20:58 2026 | | Posted by: Presto | | Category: Special | Hello!
As a result of collaboration with the Guild of Mysterious Things With Eyes Inside Magical Communication Objects, there have been some changes to the talker.
Thing one: The old "talker {brief|verbose}" syntax has been given an optional extra argument which allows you to set the brief/verbose state of chats, or of the "history" or "list" commands. The brief mode for "list" is the same as the old "list brief <channel>" command. The brief mode for "history" leaves off the timestamps for ev...Read The Rest Of This Entry |
| There's Always A Catch., posted on Wed Oct 29 15:10:59 2025 | | Posted by: Fran | | Category: Special | Both door and furniture latches had a bug that prevented them from working correctly. The door latches are now fixed but furniture latches have been removed temporarily for further bugfixing.
If you used a latch on a door, you can buy a new latch and install it, or ask a liaison to fix it for you.
If you used a latch on a piece of furniture, you can buy a new furniture lock and install it, or ask a liaison to fix it for you.

| My Door Is Aways Unlocked, posted on Sun Oct 26 16:10:13 2025 | | Posted by: Fran | | Category: Special | Locksmiths the Disc over have started stocking new items for those who don't feel the need to lock up their property and possessions.
You may now buy latches without locks for your player house doors and furniture.
To install them, use the syntax:
change [lock in] <door or furniture> for <latch>

| Sheathing And A Peek Ahead, posted on Wed Oct 22 06:15:07 2025 | | Posted by: Presto | | Category: Special | A few small things (that's what this blog is for, right?):
1. I made a small change to the sheathe command a few weeks ago so that if you don't give it a specific scabbard, it will try your worn scabbards before unworn ones.
2. I also updated the sheathe help file, because there was a feature from 2009 about using 'identify' that I suspect few people, if any, knew about. (I wasn't aware of it!)
3. At some point in the near future I'll be removing the restriction that you can only get one handfu...Read The Rest Of This Entry |
| Fixing Armour And Shielding Misattribution., posted on Sat Aug 9 09:10:14 2025 | | Posted by: Fran | | Category: Special | We have fixed a long-standing bug in combat messages. If you had a layered set of damage mitigations the combat code would sometimes credit the wrong layer as having stopped the most damage.
This is now fixed.

| No Longer A Stab In The Dark, posted on Tue Jul 29 20:13:46 2025 | | Posted by: Kadath | | Category: Special | I've updated the 'judge' command so that it is now possible to assess a weapon's suitability for stealthy attacks, such as backstabbing and ambushing.
There's no change to the syntax, you will simply see the additional information if you have a certain level of familiarity with using weapons covertly. The accuracy, like the rest of the command, depends on a number of different factors.
Please note the following:
- There has been no change to any other aspect of judge; the non-covert aspects...Read The Rest Of This Entry |
