A Fine Disregard For Awkward Facts, Part 2, posted on Fri Jun 13 11:30:10 2025 | Posted by: Kake | Category: General | As I blogged about last month, we recently identified a long-standing bug that was sometimes letting objects be put inside containers when they shouldn't have fitted due to length and width restrictions.
For the past two weeks, the MUD has been giving a WARNING to anyone who managed (due to this bug) to put an over-large item inside a container it shouldn't fit into. This was done in order to let people check whether they had been unwittingly taking advantage of this bug, and if so, to make any...Read The Rest Of This Entry |

You can now rock in all, not just some, of the rocking chairs sold as playerhouse furniture.
Master Yung will no longer tell aspiring ninja that they're ready to become chunin when they actually aren't.
The "indian" soul has been removed. (For those who were unaware: its name involves a derogatory reference to Native Americans.)

A Fine Disregard For Awkward Facts, posted on Fri May 30 12:39:34 2025 | Posted by: Kake | Category: General | A bug has been identified that was sometimes letting objects be put inside containers when they shouldn't have fitted due to length and width restrictions. This bug has been in place for a long time, so we wanted to give you all a heads-up before we fix it, so you can adjust your inventories, aliases, routines, etc as appropriate.
As a first step, we have added code that will give a WARNING when you try to put something inside a container it shouldn't fit into; but for now, the over-large thing...Read The Rest Of This Entry |

People who are wrapped in kraken tentacles will now be correctly moved to the washout beach if the ship sinks before they manage to get free.
There was a bug allowing you to smash debris and driftwood with an axe even if you weren't holding the axe. This bug has now been fixed, bringing these objects in line with other smashable sailing objects.

Tapping a camera that's run out of both paint and frames will now tell you about both these problems rather than just one of them.
The jelly sweets from the Academy of Artificers will now remember their shape over logout. (If you have any old ones hanging about, you might need to su twice in order to make them take on a shape that will stick.)

Cantankerous, Part 2, posted on Fri Jan 10 15:05:21 2025 | Posted by: Kake | Category: General | The change to bathroom furniture that I blogged about last month has now been implemented. Specifically:
From now on, the "fill" command for bathroom furniture such as baths and basins will only work when the furniture item is "plumbed in", i.e. placed as furniture.
While I'm here, I will also reiterate my previous explanation for this change, to make sure it's clear. This isn't about "realism", and it isn't about wanting to make sailing more difficult. The reason for this change is to make ...Read The Rest Of This Entry |
Cantankerous, posted on Wed Dec 11 11:46:37 2024 | Posted by: Kake | Category: Waterways (domain pages) | In a few weeks' time, we will be changing all bathroom furniture so that the "fill" command will only work when the furniture item is "plumbed in", i.e. placed as furniture. The reason for this change is that the existence of portable items providing unlimited access to water creates issues with balance that make it harder to (a) maintain existing systems that use or are affected by water and (b) implement new systems that use or are affected by water.
We are aware that this change on its own w...Read The Rest Of This Entry |
You'll Clean That Up Before You Leave, posted on Wed Dec 4 14:54:27 2024 | Posted by: Kake | Category: General | Some changes have been made to who can displace furniture and remove items from player housing that is listed for auction. Specifically, from now on, only the previous tenant and anyone they "allow"ed in the property will be able to remove things during the auction period.
There are several reasons for this change. It provides a "grace period" for players who have gone inactive or run out of money during an unexpected absence from the Disc, allowing them or their cohabitants to move their belo...Read The Rest Of This Entry |
Another Fine Product From The Nonsense Factory, posted on Sun Oct 27 16:57:11 2024 | Posted by: Kake | Category: General | The mailer is now more informative about what's actually happening when you (a) save a message from one folder to another, and (b) answer its questions about whether you'd like to save your messages to the "received" folder and/or delete the messages marked for deletion.
Note: quitting the mailer may get spammier in the short term if you have previously misunderstood how things work and hence ended up with all the things in your inbox being also duplicated in your "received" folder. Hopefully t...Read The Rest Of This Entry |
Oceanic Dissonance, posted on Sat Oct 26 17:06:48 2024 | Posted by: Kake | Category: Waterways (domain pages) | Some of you will already be aware that a compass plugin for sailing has recently been taken down by its maker, after a conversation with one of our liaisons. For the avoidance of doubt: sailing compass plugins are not permitted, so if you have one installed, please uninstall it.
I have now changed some of the sailing code in order to stop the plugin from working. The reason for doing this is to make sure nobody is breaking the rules accidentally due to not having seen this blog post.
