Information for Applicants

The Criteria

There are certain criteria that we use in assessing your suitability as a candidate for the position of Newbie Helper. If you do not meet one of the criteria below, you have very little chance of being hired. It would be in your best interests to work on meeting the criteria, rather than wasting time and effort on an application that will be turned down.

Criterion One:

Applications for a newbiehelper position have the following requirements:

You need to be at least 10 days old.
You need to be at least guild level 100.
You need to have 2 vouches.
You have 14 days to obtain your vouches.

Your application will not be posted for consideration until you have all your vouches completed.

This may seem like a lot, but for a player committed to becoming a Helper it is quite achievable. It is very important that a Helper have a wealth of knowledge of the Disc, including exploring the areas and features of the game in depth, playing in more than one of the guilds, and experiencing the richness of people who make up the the Discworld community.

Criterion Two:

You will need to have demonstrated commitment to the MUD and staying power to be an effective Helper. Not only will you be an advocate for the MUD, but you will be expected to be welcoming and helpful to new members of your guild.

Criterion Three:

You will need to be able to commit time to Discworld to be available as a Helper. The aim is to have several Helpers logged on at all times to share the load of newbie help and questions.

Criterion Four:

You will need be a 'people person'. Helpers provide a service, and good communication skills are essential. When logged on you must generally be ready to field any queries as they arise. To do your job well and enjoy it, you must be prepared to deal with all sorts of people, and be committed to making the MUD the best place possible for everyone.

Helpers, especially on newbie, are some of the first people newbies interact with. You should be familiar enough with Discworld themes and humour to be able to let them know what they're getting themselves into!

Criterion Five:

You need to be a hard worker, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Criterion Six:

You will need to have demonstrated that you are a good role model. Being a Newbie Helper involves a good deal of responsibility and trust. You will need a clean record of dealing with Creators and no serious misdemeanours for the previous year, at least.

Still here? Great! You must have been able to tick-off each criteria, and still be interested in becoming a Newbie Helper.
