(Answer) (Category) Discworld Faq-O-Matic : (Category) So You've Left the Newbie Area, What Happens Next :
Where's the best place for newbies to fight?
There are not so much 'best places' as 'places *not* to go'. Around the Discworld there are various locations that will generously offer you a quick encounter with Death. These locations are usually clearly marked or difficult to reach, so as long as you stay clear of these areas you should be fairly safe. The city streets will provide you with numerous opponents to fight, just make sure to 'consider' each opponent before engaging in combat.

In most cities, the "search" command -- the same command that so conveniently provides you with items to use and sell -- will often produce vermin that you can practice your bashing skills on.

Additionally, there are several locations where weaker NPCs are frequent, for example the Pepper Pot in Ankh-Morpork. Ask on the talker, explore, look at the maps found under the Atlas section, and make sure to heed the warning signs that mark the more dangerous areas.
